Yet another stellar game month has just passed us by and the coming month proves to be even more worthwhile for PC gamers. November 6th looks to be a particularly interesting date for Europeans as no less than three different RPGs launch on the same date: Dragon Age: Origins, Divinity 2 and Sacred 2: Ice & Blood. And in even better news, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has not been pushed back and will be released in November after all!

And let’s not forget Interplay’s recent stunning move: their old cRPGs are being re-released. Games like Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale and … indeed … Planescape: Torment will be freshly available as of mid-November! I think it’s safe to say that November 2009 will be the best month for RPG fans since … well, ever.

The release date list below features a few new arrivals and a handful of games that were pushed back, most notably Alpha Protocol and Natural Selection 2. Browse on through for your fill of upcoming PC games and their release dates. Keep in mind that these are European release dates, so availability in your region my vary (e.g.: Dragon Age: Origins is already available in North America).

At the very bottom you can find a quick recap of some of the more notable games to have been released during the past month.

Released last month:

  • Borderlands
It’s been the talk of gaming websites and twitter for days. My copy is still en route, but I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about this co-op shooter with a heavy hack & slash RPG flavor.
  • Dreamkiller
  • Elven Legacy: Ranger
The first of three budget expansion packs for this decent turn-based fantasy strategy game.
  • Eufloria
  • FIFA 10
  • FIFA Manager 10
  • Gratuitous Space Battles
A brilliant new space strategy game by indie developer cliffski. It’s a genuine strategy game in the sense that you design and build a fleet of ships, but do not direct them during battles.
  • Hammerfight
  • Lucidity
LucasArts let itself be inspired by indie-games with this new sidescrolling platform game of theirs. Unfortunately the controls are terrible, the game repetitive and I didn’t even bother playing past the 8th level. Get Trine instead.
  • Machinarium
  • Men of War: Red Tide
  • Metal Drift
A new indie-game that was recently released on Steam. It’s a team based multiplayer shooter in hovering tanks, akin to Infantry Gravball. Both teams have to grab a ball in the center of the map and score it in the other team’s goal. Good fun, suitable price tag, but could do with a few additional players.
  • Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
This realistic first person shooter has been met with decent reviews. I’ve yet to receive my copy.
  • Painkiller: Resurrection
    Don’t bother.
  • Shattered Horizon
An innovative multiplayer-only shooter set in space. Set to unlock later today, this is an excellent shooter with stellar graphics courtesy of FutureMark. It may be a little lacking in variety (no singleplayer, 4 maps, 3 game modes), but the low price matches the content. Well worth it for shooter fans with a DirectX-10 capable PC running Windows 7 or Vista.
  • Torchlight
A new isometric hack & slash RPG by the creators of Diablo and Mythos. It’s been met with favorable reviews, but the lack of a multiplayer component is a serious drawback.
  • Tropico 3

  1. I got Borderlands last week. It’s really good stuff. The online co-op is not working for me and for really many other players as well. My PC keeps freezing whenever I try to play online. So disappointed.

Also bought Dragon Age yesterday. Damn! I’ve never played such a good RPG since Gothic 1 and 2. The atmosphere is so awesome. Fights are fun! Story is also very well done. You can be a real asshole and decide to murder people or keep them alive. It’s all your decision.
I highly recommend this to everyone!

  2. Neat list!

  3. I hope that gets fixed with a patch soon then. Would hate to get Borderlands and then not be able to play it online. That seems like the best part of the game.

Dragon Age should be here tomorrow, I got word that my CE was shipped to me today. I’m really looking forward to it, because I’ve been a fan of BioWare games for a long time. It’ll be nice to finally see them doing something a little darker, although I highly doubt it’ll be quite as good as The Witcher. But who knows, maybe I’ll be surprised :p

  4. Dragon Age is amazing. Not the best Bioware RPG, but damn near. The memories of Baldur’s Gate…

Now what about a sequel to Planescape Torment?
