In keeping with ID Software’s gradual implementation of new content, a new patch for Quake Live has added four new game modes (or server types really) to the competitive multiplayer FPS.
Both hardcore players and players looking to improve their skills now have new suitable venues in 2 vs 2 TDM and proTDM servers. With only one other person required to form a team, these game modes should be well visited by the more serious Quake Live crowd. Furthermore, these servers also provide an excellent training venue for learning players, because they’re not quite as unforgiving as straight-up duel matches, but you still have to pull your weight, unlike many a public 4 vs 4 TDM game, which tend to be dominated by 1 or 2 players.
Gamers not quite so interested in dominating all other forms of virtual life can rest easy, because the remaining two server types are for you! The new Instagib Team DeathMatch and 8 vs 8 Clan Arena modes add a breath of fresh casual air to the Quake Live experience. Large Clan Arena is certainly attracting quite a following. Having played it for a few hours already, I can assure you that it’s very messy and ideal for the casual gamer who just wants to have some fun and not get blasted off the map in 10 seconds flat. Definitely a place to avoid if you’re a more serious Quake Live competitor.
So go on, check these new servers out over at the Quake Live website. It’s free!
