As one poll ends, another begins and the question for the next to weeks becomes: “Are you looking forward to StarCraft 2?”.

With all the excitement surrounding the ongoing beta test and StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty’s impending release; possibly as early as this summer; it can be easy to forget that not everyone is a RTS, or even StarCraft, fan.

I’m eagerly anticipating the release of the most promising oldschool RTS in years, which you may have noticed from my list of tips for fans without a beta key. Nowadays I do have a beta key and it is awesome, but strategy gaming has changed a lot since 1998 and many younger RTS players aren’t used to this fast-paced hardcore strategy variant that StarCraft offers up.

So will StarCraft 2 be a grand shining beacon of light for strategy gamers across the globe, or will modern strategists shun it in favor of something a little more accessible? Let me know, by voting in the new poll!

The previous poll asked what kind of music you listen to while gaming.

I thank everyone who took the time to vote in this expansive poll with a vast number of options. Surprisingly, it did result in three clear winners, with everything else trailing quite a distance behind.

Okay, seeing the game’s soundtrack coming in first wasn’t much of a surprise. It’s the most hassle-free option, for you do not need to run any background applications to listen to it, and most modern soundtracks are well worth a listen anyway.

To see that followed closely by both Metal and Rock music was a bit of a surprise however. Those genres of music are woefully unpopular amongst the masses nowadays, but apparently not-so amongst PC gamers – raking in 31% and 23% of the votes respectively. One might also add Classical music to this list, for there is little difference between classical and orchestral music and they scored a combined 23% of the votes.

Seeing Hip Hop losing out quite dramatically stands in a clear contrast to pop-culture. Apparently one of today’s most popular genres isn’t quite so popular as background music for gamers, which could indicate that game developers might do well in not straying too far in that direction in an attempt to gain more players, as Infinity Ward and numerous other developers appear to be doing.

  • The Game’s Soundtrack (41%)
  • Metal (31%)
  • Rock (23%)
  • Classical (13%)
  • Rap (13%)
  • R&B (10%)
  • Pop (10%)
  • Orchestral (10%)
  • Jazz (10%)
  • Hardcore (8%)
  • Gothic (8%)
  • Trance (8%)
  • Punk (8%)
  • Hip Hop (5%)

Check back in two weeks time for a new poll, and of course the results of the current poll!
