Every digital download service has its special sales to get people to buy more games. I cover those extensively every week in those lovely Discount Drone features, but sometimes something comes along that just can’t wait until friday. This is one of those times.
Stardock has temporarily reduced the price of all of its titles on Impulse. Rock Paper Shotgun already has the great 4X strategy game Galactic Civilizations II covered, with their reference of Tom Francis’ GalCiv II diary. But there are two other great games to note here, both of which I’d actually recommend over GalCiv II (I know, blasphemy and all that).
Sins of a Solar Empire is an absolutely brilliant real-time 4X strategy game, as opposed to GalCiv II’s turn-based gameplay. The deal doesn’t include the Diplomacy and Entrenchment DLC, but it’s still absolutely worth it at just 8 euro! You’re not going to find better real-time 4X space strategy than this, although it doesn’t contain a singleplayer campaign: just a tutorial, skirmish and multiplayer.
The final game is Demigod, which I’m sure you know from the launch day horror stories. Nowadays it doesn’t suffer from those nasty connection issues and is simply a very good, strategic, take on the popular WarCraft 3 custom map Defense of the Ancients (DotA). In terms of community it’s definitely preferable over Heroes of Newerth and even League of Legends. That being said, those games are more popular, but that doesn’t detract from the sheer quality that Demigod exudes. It feature a singleplayer tournament versus AI bots, skirmish and extensive multiplayer play.
Three games that are definitely worth checking out and available at 8,07 euro each. Go for it!
