More new Guild Wars 2 information keeps streaming in with yesterday’s exclusive interview by IGN with ArenaNet. It casually mentions a few rather significant new details, such as feats being daily achievements, but mostly focuses around the activities or mini-games system that has thus far only been hinted at. The lack of detail does seem to imply that ArenaNet intends to reveal a lot more about activities themselves sometime soon, but at least we now know a bit more about these non-combat activities!
Be sure to check out my previous Guild Wars 2 coverage if you’re still a bit in the dark on this incredible upcoming MMORPG. I’ve covered the design manifesto, combat system and elementalist profession, dynamic events system #1 & #2 and the personal story system. And of course the recent reveals of the Warrior profession and traits system #1 and #2.

General
- Achievements will be tied to accounts rather than characters, so you will never have to earn the same achievement twice.
- An achievement mentioned involves mastering all weapon types in the game, which requires playing multiple characters. Hence the account-bound achievements system.
- Some achievements may unlock character titles, but there will not be actual gameplay rewards for earning achievements.
- Feats are daily achievements with simple goals like killing a set number of enemies. These reward experience points and reset daily.
- ArenaNet intends for feats to be the way for casual players to keep pace, instead of the rested experience system that’s popular in most MMORPGs.
- The manner in which you behave towards NPCs will determine your personality archetype. This will allow you to interact differently will NPCS and will result in different reactions from them.
- A player with an honorable personality might get to charm or inspire NPCs into helping them, whereas a less noble character would simply use intimidation. The results are generally the same, but the way you go about it is different.
- The in-game map takes its cues from Yahoo and Google Maps, with features like click-and-slide and zooming in.
- Asura Gates can be found in most of the major cities in the world and will likely be the main form of long distance transport. This would imply that teleporting via the map is no longer possible, or at least severely restricted.

Could this be the shooting gallery activity?
Activities
- The mini-games that were previously hinted at are called activities and intended as a relaxing break of the serious dynamic events, personal storylines, PvP and general character progression.
- A bar brawl is mentioned as an example, which removes the player’s weapons and encourages them to use the environment to their advantage. It sounds like it utilizes Guild Wars 2′s per-weapon skill system, with abilities like chugging beer and pewing it at enemies, to hitting them over the head with beer mugs. This sounds a lot like the holiday mini-game in Guild Wars, which also tend to change around the game mechanics to something entirely different, wacky and fun.
- It will be possible to play instruments as an activity. No details were mentioned.
- A shooting gallery is another possible activity. Again, no details were mentioned.
- Some activities can be joined while they’re in progress, while others have queues similar to the Guild Wars holiday mini-games.
- There will be both tangible and intangible rewards, like rare item skins, for being successful in activities.
- NPCs will react to how well, or poorly, you’re doing in an activity.
