A new IGN interview introduced the activities aspect of Guild Wars 2 mere hours ago and now ArenaNet is following up on that with a much more detailed look at what exactly these activities are with an article on their blog. This new article sheds some light on several activities in the game and promises the return of one of the most popular Guild Wars holiday event mini-games.
Take a look at my previous Guild Wars 2 coverage if you’re new to this innovative upcoming fantasy MMORPG. I’ve covered the design manifesto, combat system and elementalist profession, dynamic events system #1 & #2 and the personal story system. And of course the recent reveals of the Warrior profession and traits system #1 and #2.
Also visit the official Guild Wars 2 website for a wealth of game media and the ArenaNet company blog for further game coverage. You can also simply subscribe to GameDrone for constant bullet point lists containing all the latest information in a concise format, as seen below.
Activities
- Activities are intended to make the game feel more like a virtual world, rather than a series of combat sequences like so many other MMORPGs.
- There will be free-for-all and team-based activities.
- Much like Guild Wars holiday mini-games, activities are not restricted by level and all participants are equal regardless of level or equipment.
- The shooting range involves players competing for the highest score before the time runs out.
- Participants in the shooting range have a set of unique abilities. Spread shots and attacks that pierce through multiple targets in a row can be used to best your opponents.
- The popular snowball fights of the Guild Wars Wintersday event will make a return. It’s likely to have changed a bit, but a snowball fight is still a snowball fight.

Numerous activities will allow you to take a break from saving the world
Bar Brawl Activity
- A competitive free-for-all activity involving a lot of drinking while smashing things. How could it fail?
- There are several flavors of ale which generate different effects when consumed. A Grenth’s Grog ale allows players to belch out noxious gas clouds.
- As characters become increasingly drunk their critical hit chance increases, but so does their miss chance.
- Ale bottles can be used as throwing weapons as well as in melee. They have a chance of breaking on impact, which will result in a broken bottle: perfect for slashing your way to victory!
- It’s also possible to forsake such weaponry entirely and engage other brawlers purely with your fists and feet. You might kick someone into a table, which then breaks and provides you with a handy board to hit people with.
