An observant gamer can save a lot of money by frequently visiting digital download sites to check for new special offers. You can sometimes save as much as 80% on games with these deals, or even gain a free game for pre-ordering an upcoming title, which can quickly lead to a very healthy gaming collection at surprisingly little cost.
But it can be tiresome to constantly browse through enormous lists of sales for the best deals, so that’s what I’ll be doing for you in this weekly feature! I’ll cover the most interesting titles on sale and provide short descriptions and recommendations for each game. Should the currency used on the service not be in euro (Good Old Games), then I’ll also convert the pricing at the current exchange rate.
This week isn’t quite as packed with astounding deals as last week, but there are still numerous excellent games to be had thanks in large part to GamersGate’s adventure game deals. The first two seasons of Sam & Max as well as Tales of Monkey Island are notable here, but also very interesting is the almost negligible price for the expansive 4X space strategy game Space Empires V. Good Old Games follows suit and offers a massive discount on several classics from publisher Kalypso of which Commandos is sure to draw attention. Direct2Drive also has an interesting deal with their Best of Indie Bundle Vol 3 that combines numerous indie games into one airtight package.

The second season of Telltale’s comical new take on the Sam & Max adventure game franchise. Only five episodes this time around, but they tend to last longer, contain more challenging puzzles and generally improve upon the first season in every regard. The Space Empires series is known as an excellent franchise of 4X turn-based space strategy gaming and Space Empires V certainly doesn’t disappoint. It introduces serviceable 3D graphics and real-time strategy combat to the series is an absolute bargain at this price. Get it. - Tales of Monkey Island Complete Season Bundle on GamersGate – Save 60% Weekend Deal – 13,18 EUR
This new Telltale series marks a return to the excellent Monkey Island franchise with lush new 3D graphics and an engaging new episodic storyline. These five episodes form a solid new entry in the franchise that never quite manages to reach the same allure as the originals, nor even Monkey Island 4, but still offers some of the best point-and-click adventure gameplay in a long time.

Imagine a wide open world where you can perform action-movie stunts to your heart’s content, where you can grappling hook onto helicopters and take control of tons of vehicles. Add in an excellent engine that requires DirectX 10 (Windows Vista or 7) and you have Just Cause 2. An upcoming third person shooter featuring two twisted criminals on the run. It includes a singleplayer campaign, co-op and multiplayer game modes. The original game was considered to be fairly mediocre, so I wouldn’t expect too much from this sequel. It’s also less expensive to pre-order this at your average webshop. - The Guild 2 Collection – Save 10% Launch Deal – 35,99 EUR
The Guild 2 and two of its expansion packs offer a medieval life simulation that suffers from bugs and a low budget. Still there aren’t really any game quite like it other than Mount & Blade, which focuses a lot more on combat, but is certainly a much better game. That said, this might be worth a look if you’re interested in creating your own medieval dynasty. Does not include the Venice expansion pack. - Worms Reloaded – Save 10% Pre-order Deal – 17,99 EUR
It’s an all new 2D Worms game set to release in August, a decade after the excellent Worms: Armaggedon. It’s essentially a turn-based warfare game with small squads of worms that is absolutely hilarous in single- and multiplayer alike. This new version includes up-to-date 2D graphics, four player multiplayer, achievements, leaderboards, a map editor, etc. It looks set to be a great new entry in a long dead franchise and comes with Steam integration!

In this turn-based fantasy strategy/RPG you take command of a small army of troops and scour clean maps with gameplay that’s mildly reminiscent of Heroes of Might & Magic. Interestingly the entire map is a battlefield so you always have to properly position your forces when moving, not just during combat. A solid strategy game that should be good for a fair few hours of fun, but don’t expect too much from the storytelling. Don’t bother with it until you’ve finished Heroes of Might & Magic V and King’s Bounty. Includes all expansion packs. - Flock! – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 7,49 EUR
Herd flocks of sheep towards the goal with your UFO in this interesting and colorful puzzle game. - Gratuitous Space Battles Complete – Save 35% Weekend Deal – 19,86 EUR
An excellent indie strategy game that puts you in command of a space fleet. Design your own ships and set up your armadas before each battle, then watch as they tear into the opposing fleets. There is no direct unit control in this game, but it really doesn’t matter given the gratuitous space battles and excellent pre-battle planning systems. This package also includes all three race expansions (The Order, The Swarm and The Tribe). It should be noted that the package comes in at similar price at the official website, which is of course more supportive of the developer. - Hacker Evolution: Untold w/ Flight Zero - Save 50% Weekend Deal - 9,47 EUR
In this game you take on the role of a hacker trying to prevent computers from becoming the dominant species on the planet. Two excellent third person action games in which you assume the role of an assassin. Both games involve a lot of free-running, assassinating and sneaking around/hiding from guards. Assassin’s Creed 2 is markedly better than its predecessor, because it’s not quite so repetitive. Both are excellent games in their own right however and its a fair price for this package. Assassin’s Creed 2 comes with UbiSoft’s UPlay DRM which requires a constant internet connection. - Broken Sword Twin Pack – Save 60% Weekend Deal – 3,58 EUR

The world is spiralling out of control with economic crisis in Europe, civil wars in South America, famine in Africa and floods in Southeast Asia. Nina Kalenkov tries to escape it all, but is inevitably pulled into another web of mysteries when she witnesses a murder in the Hamburg docks while on a cruise to Portugal. Yet more serious point-and-click adventure gaming. - Simon the Sorcerer Classic Pack – Save 60% Weekend Deal – 5,18 EUR
The first three games in this celebrated series of adventure games featuring a young sorcerer who continually manages to get himself into trouble. A new addition to this adventure game franchise that presents much more compelling visuals, but falls short of the humor and puzzles presented in the original games. It’s still been rated fairly favorably, but there are numerous more compelling humoristic adventure games nowadays such as Ceville, Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island. - So Blonde – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 9,97 EUR
A point-and-click adventure game where you assume the role of Sunny Blonde, a cute blonde who survives a shipwreck to awake on a beautiful beach in a time when pirates rule the Caribbean. It’s a colorful and humoristic adventure game, but like Simon the Sorcerer 5 it doesn’t quite match up to modern adventure game standards. - The Void – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 9,97 EUR

A decent follow-up to Advanced Warfighter, but it suffers from a similarly weak story and horrible AI problems. Also features ads in-game. Supposedly still a decent tactical shooter, but be prepared to deal with shitty teammates.

Serious Sam is the brainless kind of shooter that sends hundreds of monsters barreling your way and asks you to pump them full of lead. It mixes fast-paced, all guns blazing, action with extensive multiplayer, co-op and humor. This HD version is the new re-release of the old classic with much improved graphics and multiplayer. - Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter – Save 33% – 13,30 EUR
A remake of the second, and best, game in the Serious Sam series. It not only improves the graphics, but also introduces multiplayer DeathMatch and Survival modes.
Good Old Games

This is a 50% discount for both the entire pack and any individual games you might wish to purchase. The titles on sale include the fantastic Commandos franchise, as well as solid top-down shooter Expendable. Constructor and Mob Rule offer an unusual and humoristic take on building your own real estate agency and mafia family respectively. Incoming and Incoming Forces are two solid, but dated, arcade shooters. Preatorians, Port Royale and Tropico Reloaded are also well worth playing if you’re into strategy gaming or empire management. Also available are the Creatures series, Patrician 1 + 2 and Imperial Glory.
