Port Royale 2 is also worth mentioning for its alluring singleplayer gameplay set in the 17th Century caribbean.

Deals of the Week

  • Commandos Complete on Get Games – Save 87% Weekend Deal – 2,- EUR
The entire Commandos franchise is included in this excellently priced package. Not only the outstanding original squad-based strategy games of Behind Enemy Lines & Commandos 2, but also the sub-par sequel Commandos 3 and the mediocre shooter Strike Force. Absolutely worth the price of admission.
  • Faces of War on Green Man Gaming – Save 92% Weekend Deal – 0,99 EUR
Faces of War involves small scale real-time strategy gameplay with heavy unit micromanagement similar to Soldiers: Heroes of World War 2. That involves managing units inventories and actions in far greater detail than in ordinary real-time strategy games. It’s also a very challenging game with extensive multiplayer support and 3D graphics similar of Company of Heroes.
  • Port Royale 2 on GamersGate – Save 60% Weekend Deal – 3,99 EUR
Port Royale 2 is a naval trading game set in the 17th Century caribbean. It includes actual trading of resources, but also real-time battles with full ship control, colorful 3D graphics, missions, fleet management, etc. It’s definitely worth a look, so be sure to give the demo a whirl if you’re interested.

Action

  • Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY on Steam – Save 66% Weekend Deal - 17,- EUR
This third-person action game goes against gaming convention by being an excellent game based on a comic. Outstanding third-person action gameplay combines with a captivating storyline and perfectly casted characters to form (one of) the best action game(s) in recent years. It’s an absolute must-have for any fan of the franchise, but also well worth playing for those not quite as fond of the Batman comics and movies.
  • Street Fighter IV 2 for 1 Pack on GamersGate – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 27,95 EUR
There are few fighting games on the PC, which makes this recent entry into the popular Street Fighter series a welcome sight. It combines highly stylized graphics with solid fighting gameplay that doesn’t differ much from previous Street Fighter games. This makes it a great game to play, but it suffers from the classic fighting game flaws: completely inaccessible to newcomers and a ridiculously overpowered final boss. This pack includes two copies of the game so that you can play online with a friend.
  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction 2 for 1 Pack on GamersGate – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 29,95 EUR
This latest entry in the Splinter Cell franchise takes a u-turn by focusing more on action and pacing than stealth, contrary to its predecessors. It offers an enjoyable, but short, singleplayer campaign and a co-op campaign of similar length. This pack includes two copies so that you can play online with a friend. This game ships with UPlay DRM which requires a constant active internet connection.

Adventure

  • Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse on Telltale Games – Save 50% Deal – 7,15 EUR
The third season of Telltale’s popular adventure game series has finally concluded and it’s the best season yet! This package includes all five episodes of the third season for some hilarious point-and-click adventure gameplay. It’s been reduced in price to celebrate the launch of the final episode.

First Person Shooter

  • NecroVisioN: Lost Company on Green Man Gaming – Save 80% Weekend Deal – 4,95 EUR
The latest title in the NecroVisioN franchise is actually a prequel that puts you in the shoes of a German soldier fighting off hordes of monsters during World War I. A good deal if you’re into arcade first person shooters with hordes of mindless monsters to blast your way through.
  • Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising on Get Games – Save 65% Weekend Deal – 13,59 EUR
Dragon Rising is a serious shooter with realistic combat, movement, weaponry and vehicles. It includes a decent 11-mission campaign on a huge open island that’s been turned into a contemporary war zone as well as solid multiplayer gameplay. The game suffers a bit from weak AI and a few bugs, but otherwise it’s a good first person shooter and an essential item in fans of realistic military games.
  • Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter on Get Games – Save 33% Weekend Deal – 7,98 EUR
A shooter that’s not afraid to be silly with its hundreds of senseless monsters charging to their death and dozens of over-the-top weapons with ridiculous amounts of ammo. That’s a good thing, because it makes for non-stop action in awesome co-op multiplayer that automatically scales the challenge to the player count. This re-release of the old classics introduces much improved graphics and multiplayer functionality to the game.
  • Unreal Tournament 2004: Editor’s Choice 2 for 1 Pack on GamersGate – Save 50% Weekend Deal - 9,95 EUR
A fully patched up version of the multiplayer-oriented hardcore first person shooter Unreal Tournament 2004. It ships with a basic singleplayer campaign that is little more than a succession of botmatches, but the multiplayer and mod functionality is where it’s at. The basic game isn’t quite as  good as Unreal Tournament or Unreal Tournament 3, but it has a near endless supply of maps, characters, mutators and mods. This package comes with 2 games so that you can play online with a friend.
  • Unreal Tournament 3 Black 2 for 1 Pack on GamersGate – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 19,99 EUR
The latest entry in the longstanding Unreal Tournament franchise of multiplayer-oriented hardcore first person shooters. This one comes with an actual singleplayer campaign, albeit one that merely strings together a series of botmatches with some sub-par storytelling and dialogue reminiscent of Gears of War. It’s arguably the most perfectly balanced game in the UT franchise, but never attained any real popularity due to poor multiplayer functionality, bugs and an atrocious menu system. These are no longer much of an issue with this Black edition and a lot of great mods are released for the game, but it’s only barely more popular than Unreal Tournament 2004 nowadays and both games combined don’t even come close to the original Unreal Tournament’s current day player counts.

Role-playing Game

  • Divinity 2: Ego Draconis on GamersGate – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 14,98 EUR
An action-packed third person fantasy role-playing game with a protagonist who used to be a dragon hunter but can now turn into a dragon himself. It’s a fairly lengthy game that clocks in at around 40 hours, so it’s certainly worth a look.
  • Dungeon Defenders on GamersGate / Impulse – Save 10% Pre-order Deal – 7,19 EUR
Choose a class, create a character and team up with three friends to defend your dungeon from waves of monsters! Add in a wide variety of towers, pets, loot, monsters, achievements, game modes and a storydriven campaign and you have Dungeon Defenders’ unique take on the tower defense genre. These digital pre-orders come with an exclusive familiar depending on the digital distribution service (Direct2Drive, GamersGate, Impulse or Steam).
  • Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes on Steam / GamersGate – Save 20% Launch Deal – 15,19 EUR
A humorous role-playing game with a turn-based battle system. It’s intended as a comedic alternative to today’s overly serious role-playing games and apparently manages it quite well in a fairly low budget manner.

Real-time Strategy

  • Darwinia on Green Man Gaming – Save 33% Deal – 3,95 EUR
A retro-themed indie real-time strategy game where you have to save the Darwinians from extinction as a computer virus has infiltrated their world. It only features singleplayer, but is actually quite fun to play.
  • Gratuitous Space Battles DLC Bundle on Positech Games – Save 50% Deal - 9,99 EUR
Gratuitous Space Battles is a space strategy game that involves ship assembly and positioning, but no control during battles whatsoever. The singleplayer campaign is essentially a series of escalating challenges, but it’s also possible to create your own battle scenarios or download other people’s scenarios. This package does not include the original game which is required to run the four included DLC packs that introduce new ships and equipment to the game.
  • Hegemony: Philip of Macedon on Impulse – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 12,49 EUR
A real-time strategic warfare game made by a very small team of developers that looks surprisingly good with a board game-style overmap and close-up 3D battle sequences. It recreates the conquest of Ancient Greece by Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. A slight lack of depth and limited replayability prevent it from being a good strategy game, but it’s still interesting enough to warrant a look.
  • Stronghold Collection on Get Games – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 14,99 EUR
The Stronghold series offers an interesting take on the real-time strategy genre. The five games included in this package all involve building a stronghold and then defending it from invasions while keeping it operational. These games are also known for their excellent depiction of medieval siege warfare although it should be noted that the original two are much better than the newer installments in the franchise.

Turn-based Strategy

  • Armada 2526 on Impulse – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 10,77 EUR
This is a 4X space strategy game that involves turn-based empire management on the starmap and real-time 3D space battles. It doesn’t quite match up to Sword of the Stars in either respect, but it’s a solid alternative if you’re looking for something new in the same vein.
  • Guardians of Graxia on GamersGate – Save 10% Launch Deal - 8,99 EUR
An interesting mixture of a Magic: The Gathering style card game with a board game and fancy 3D graphics. It suffers a bit from a lack of longevity due to a limited number of maps, no difficulty levels and no multiplayer mode.
  • World War 2: Time of Wrath on Impulse – Save 50% Deal – 13,49 EUR
A decent turn-based grand strategy game set in World War 2.

Simulator

  • Air Aces: Pacific on Impulse – Save 50% Deal – 24,99 EUR
An arcade flight simulator set in the Pacific arena of World War 2 with variable reality-mode settings for different flight experiences.
  • Darkstar One on GamersGate – Save 60% Weekend Deal – 3,99 EUR
Darkstar One is an arcade space simulator that focuses around a wide variety of story-driven missions, but also includes numerous possible upgrades for the player’s ship. It’s not a particularly outstanding game in its genre, but it’s one of only a handful space sims released in the past decade and thus still worth a look. A DRM-enforced activation limit of 3 activations is included in this version.
  • Race Driver: GRID on Get Games – Save 50% Weekend Deal – 9,99 EUR
GRID is an excellent racing game that involves not only straight-up racing, but also creating your own racing team and hiring AI team mates. Interestingly it avoids the convention of car tuning and modification altogether in favor of placing the focus on the actual racing portion of the game.
  • Railworks 2 on Steam – Save 50% Launch Deal – 17,49 EUR
The latest train simulator from the team behind Railworks. This includes dozens of scenarios, five realistic train routes, three fictional train routes and a world editor for creating your own train routes.
  • Tropico 3 on Get Games – Save 25% Weekend Deal – 14,99 EUR
Become the ruler of a remote, tropical, island during the cold war. Be anything from a kind and generous leader to a ruthless tyrant and watch it all infold with beautiful 3D graphics.

Other Games and Bundles

  • Anuman Interactive Games on Good Old Games – Save 50% Weekend Deal or 30% per game – 25,82 EUR
A sale on all games published by Anuman Interactive, which includes a few noteworthy titles. Syberia and Syberia 2 are excellent 3D point-and-click adventure games with intruiging storylines, whereas Haegemonia offers exciting space battles in a real-time strategy format. Still Life and Amerzone are two other engaging point-and-click adventure games with contemporary settings, while Iron Storm is a mediocre first person shooter. The MegaRace racing games round out the package, but are certainly the least impressive titles in this weekend’s GOG.com sale.
  • Poker Night at the Inventory on Steam – Save 10% Pre-order Deal – 3,59 EUR
Take Team Fortress 2′s Heavy, Max from Sam & Max, Homestar Runner’s Strong Bad and Tychus from Penny Arcade and you get Poker Night at the Inventory! It’ll be a game about playing poker, but not quite in the way you’re used to.
  • THQ Ultimate Bundle on Impulse – Save 68% Deal – 93,64 EUR
This is a bundle of some of THQ’s best PC games. It includes the entire Company of Heroes series of World War 2-era real-time strategy games, along with Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War and Supreme Commander and their respective expansion packs. Proper first person shooters are also included in the form of the entire Red Faction franchise and both Full Spectrum Warrior games. The excellent Action RPG Titan Quest and its Immortal Throne expansion are also included, along with the superb free-roaming singleplayer FPS S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The racing game Juiced 2 and zoo simulator World of Zoo round out the package.
  • Uplink on Green Man Gaming – Save 33% Deal – 3,95 EUR
In this game you assume the role of a freelance hacker. Take on jobs and upgrade your tools with the earnings as you progress through the game’s plot.
